WHY SHOULD I HUMBLE MYSELF? PRAYER & FASTING
Clarkston, MI Community Bible Study
Bridgewood Church

“Why Should I Humble Myself? Prayer and Fasting (01/23/24) Week 3 of 3 - Community Bible Study at Bridgewood Church in Clarkston, MI … What did Jesus say when being tempted while humbling himself by fasting and then praying? IT IS WRITTEN. Jesus not only knew the Word, He is the WORD!

Jesus came to show us how to live, how to deal with the temptations, the tests, the trials, the anxiousness, the confusion that we all have experienced or will face. What happened to Moses after he humbled himself by fasting and then praying or being alone with God? The Bible said his face glowed after being in the presence of God. Everyone could see his face actually glowing… WOW! With just on week left of the 3 week time of humbling ourselves by fasting and then praying, not my will but God’s Will be done… I am excited to see what is in store these next 7 days (and then what is to come next).

There will times in your life when it seems stagnate, nothing is happening, everything is the same, no reason to get up today… nothing excites you. But, God is doing something new, when we humble ourselves and look at things in life thru His eyes, He can make all things new again.

Jesus is coming and He wants us ready for His Return!

“Why Should I Humble Myself? Prayer and Fasting (01/16/24) Week 2 of 3 - Community Bible Study in Clarkston, MI (Bridgewood Church). So, why should we fast? In God’s Word, when Jesus humbled Himself, He fasted and prayed. When Moses humbled Himself, he fasted and prayed. Fasting and praying is always tied to humbling yourself in God’s Word. When you and I pray, do we pray desiring our outcome? Because, God’s Word said that is out of pride because we fear what we or someone we love might have to go thru? God said to Pray that His Will be done which is humbling ourselves to what we want in exchange for what He wants or His Will or His plan for our life.

During times of fasting, God may not do what you want to others in that time frame but He will change you. The Word says that the moment you humble yourself by fasting and praying that He hears and sees it and is working on your behalf.

“Why Should I Humble Myself? Prayer and Fasting (01/09/24) Part 1 Tuesday Night Community Bible Study at Bridgewood Church in Clarkston, MI)…… There are “things” listed in God’s Word that HE hates. Proverbs 6:16 These six “things” the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others]. a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, (prideful person) feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.

He hates Pride and it is looked at by God the same as these other “things” listed. Pride defined: (NOUN) 1828 Webster’s Dictionary in which the definitions are based on the meaning found in KJV of the bible…1. Inordinate (or unjustifiable) self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one's own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others.

Pride is the opposite of Humility… and fear, doubt, anxiousness are all based in Pride. We think we know the outcome so our decisions, thoughts and actions are based on what we think and not what God says. Faith is opposite of fear and Humility is the opposite of Pride. Humility means to set aside what you think is right and do what God says is right or righteous which is found in His Word. Faith without acts of obedience (humility) leads to death. Remember, His thoughts are not our thoughts and His way are not our ways.. His Ways are higher than ours and He knows the end from the beginning.

I encourage you to consider joining us for a 21 day fast starting January 10th. During times of fasting, God may not do what you want to others in that time frame but He will change you. The Word says that the moment you humble yourself by fasting and praying that He hears and sees it and is working on your behalf.
